What is Alexa calling and messaging?
The Alexa to Alexa calling was started by Amazon on its echo devices in late 2016. The company started this feature on Particular echo device because it had good display section.
Later, Amazon has decided to extend this functionality to other echo devices as well. So, they introduced messaging and calling feature on all echo device. If you are a user of Android or iOS OS, then you can use this feature on your phone or tablet.
Not only calls, but you can even send a voice message to your friend with this feature. The best part of this feature is that you only require an internet connection for its operation. No extra accessory is required for this.
How does this feature work?
What you all need: You require an Amazon account, Alexa app on Android or iOS device, mobile phone number and android fire tablet.
Everything will be set up using Alexa setup. You just verify your phone number and start synchronizing the contacts from the phone. This feature is accessible through Echo device. If you have Echo device and your friend owns this product, then you can do direct calling with the help of Alexa.
Getting started
Download the app from the store. Open it, once it got downloaded. Click on the conversation icon given on home screen. You need to enter your name, enable contact list for verification and information purpose. You will then get an SMS on the screen. This will verify your phone number.
Alexa will search your contact list and find out those people who are using the same device at home.
Calling
You can even place a call through Alexa app. The process is almost same as that of messaging. Click on the conversation icon on the home screen. Select contact from the list to whom you want to call. Speak to Alexa through the mic. You just need to utter wakeup word along with the name of the contact. It will send an incoming ring to the other person whom you call.
All the calls and messages are placed through Alexa app. The function of echo device is to provide sound and the function of Alexa app is to provide notification. To answer a call, either accept through phone or speak ‘Answer’ in mic. If you want to disconnect the call, then speak ‘Ignore’ in mic. When you want to close the call, say ‘Hang up’ in mic.
Voice messages
The voice message is like a voicemail. If you want to create a voice message, then you can do so with the help of Alexa app. To start a new conversation, click on ‘New conversation’ from the top of the conversation screen. Click on Mic button given in blue color to send a new voice message.
